On September 15, 2026, Meta launched Meta One, a subscription bundle covering Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Meta AI. It brought the first paid subscription inside WhatsApp: WhatsApp Plus, starting at US$ 2.99 a month. The plans aimed at creators and businesses run from US$ 14.99 to US$ 499 a month. What WhatsApp Plus delivers today is looks: exclusive themes and icons, special effect stickers and the ability to pin more chats. Anyone who serves customers on WhatsApp has to look at the business tiers instead, and even there a good share of what you pay for sits outside WhatsApp.

Meta says the service has passed 15 million subscriptions and trials, with more than 50 features launched. None of them removes ads from the apps, and the announcement never claims otherwise.

This text is part of our WhatsApp news series: what Meta ships, with a date and a source, kept apart from rumor.

What Meta One is

In the official announcement, Meta describes Meta One as a subscription that gives higher AI usage, more expression features and professional tools for creators and businesses. It has three floors. Single products, starting at US$ 2.99 a month. Personal bundles, from US$ 7.99 (Core) to US$ 19.99 (Premium). And business and creator bundles, from US$ 14.99 to US$ 499 a month.

The core experience of the apps stays free, and that includes the WhatsApp Business app: its Google Play description, updated on September 17, 2026, still opens by calling it a free-to-download app. What the subscription sells is extra features layered on top, and it is worth reading that list item by item.

What it costs, and where prices are published

Meta says pricing and availability vary by region, by app and by account, so the dollar figures are the reference and local currency can differ. Brazil is a useful example because the full local table was published at launch: WhatsApp Plus at R$ 7, Core at R$ 32, Premium at R$ 97, then Essential from R$ 59, Advanced from R$ 199, Expert from R$ 599 and Max from R$ 1,999 a month, according to the Brazilian press on September 15 and 16, 2026. The most expensive business tier costs about 34 times the cheapest one.

Advancedfrom US$ 49.99A small team that needs access without sharing a password
Maxfrom US$ 499A large operation, with the highest Meta Business Agent capacity

One step is missing from that table: Expert, from US$ 149 a month, sits between Advanced and Max.

Is WhatsApp Plus any use for work?

By Meta's own list, barely. The announcement names exclusive themes and icons, special effect stickers and the ability to pin more chats. During the Brazilian test in June 2026, Fast Company Brasil reported a ceiling of 20 pinned chats and three requirements to subscribe: a phone number registered in a country where the subscription exists, an active WhatsApp account and acceptance of the subscription terms. One active subscription per account.

Two things were promised and have not arrived: storage for chat and media backups, and Focus Schedules, which mutes or hides chats on a schedule you set. The second is the only one that looks like a work tool, because it separates office hours from home without anyone archiving chats by hand. Neither has a date.

Pinning 20 chats tidies up the list of a small shop. It does not deal with the seven-minute voice note a customer sent at 7pm.

What the business tiers change on WhatsApp

This is the part that matters if you sell. The announcement spells out four steps:

  • Essential, from US$ 14.99. A verified badge, a verified WhatsApp Business channel, more access to Meta Business Agent on WhatsApp to answer customers around the clock, and impersonation protection.
  • Advanced, from US$ 49.99. Story scheduling up to 30 days ahead, links in organic posts and reels, exportable analytics and deeper audience insights, team member access without sharing a password, additional linked devices and stronger Business Agent responses.
  • Expert, from US$ 149, and Max, from US$ 499. The same features with a higher ceiling, mostly Business Agent capacity for teams.

Two items in Advanced change the routine for real. Team access without a shared password solves an old problem, because plenty of front desks still work by passing the office phone from hand to hand. And additional linked devices means more people answering the same number at once, in an app that works with up to five devices per account.

Meta Business Agent deserves a note of caution. It is Meta's automated reply inside WhatsApp and, on the API, it has been billed per token since August 1, 2026, at US$ 2.00 per million tokens, with Meta's own estimate of 20,000 to 25,000 tokens per message. The Meta One announcement promises "more access" to the agent at each step without saying how much more that is.

The rest of the bundle is Instagram and Facebook: competitor insights, metrics history beyond 90 days, post scheduling, links in reels. That adds up for a marketing agency. For a clinic that only uses WhatsApp, it is money with nothing behind it.

What about people already paying for Meta Verified?

The Meta One announcement does not answer that. It does not say what happens to current Meta Verified subscriptions, gives no migration date and does not confirm that Meta Verified is ending. Anyone already paying is better off checking the notice inside their own account before cancelling and subscribing to something else, because it is also unpublished whether the badge follows a self-directed switch.

Does this have anything to do with the October 1 billing change?

No, and mixing the two costs money. Meta One is a subscription for features, charged to whoever subscribes. The October 1, 2026 change is on the API, the WhatsApp Business Platform, charged per delivered message.

According to Meta's pricing page, from October 1 service messages start being billed on the API, with an allowance of 1,000 free service messages per business number per month, and utility messages inside the 24-hour window go back to being billed. No Meta One plan includes that allowance or replaces the payment method the API requires. Businesses on the API need a payment method on file by September 30, 2026 to keep service messages delivered beyond the allowance.

What changes for people who serve customers on WhatsApp

For a clinic's front desk, the verified badge and the impersonation protection in Essential solve something concrete: the patient who gets a message from a fake number using the clinic's name. For a school, a verified channel carries the notice that goes to every parent without turning into a group pile-up. For an agency of four, team access without a shared password is the item that justifies the price.

For an accountant or a lawyer, the arithmetic is colder. A badge helps with a first-time client, but their day is made of one-to-one chats, documents and long voice notes. None of the four steps transcribes a voice note, summarizes a chat or lets you find what a client said on Tuesday. The salesperson closing 40 chats a day is in the same spot: the bottleneck is listening, not looking verified.

That piece still lives on the computer. ZapVox, a WhatsApp Web extension that transcribes, summarizes and translates voice notes, was built for it: new voice notes in the open chat turn into text on their own, the summary gathers the last 24 hours of messages and transcribed voice notes into a card on your screen, and search finds the word that was spoken inside a voice note. None of that appears on the Meta One list, and nothing in Meta One replaces it.

Where this stops

  • Prices move. Meta states that pricing and availability vary by region, by app and by account, so the local figure on your screen is the one that counts.
  • Meta One does not remove ads. No plan was announced as removing advertising.
  • WhatsApp Plus is tied to the personal app. The published requirements talk about an active WhatsApp account. The announcement does not say whether the WhatsApp Business app gets WhatsApp Plus.
  • The business tiers are not only WhatsApp. A good share of what you pay for there is Instagram and Facebook.
  • Our own limits. ZapVox runs with WhatsApp Web open on a computer, not in the phone app; the Free plan has a daily quota; and audio is sent to a cloud transcription service to become text.
  • This is a snapshot from September 25, 2026. When Meta publishes the Meta Verified migration or dates the promised features, this article will be updated.
